"Rich, dark and exotic"

For the Macro Mondays challenge (Feb 29th 2016) "Coffee"

PA - The little things

It's hard to imagine how people thought about coffee when the first coffeehouse opened in London in 1652. (Men only - women were banned - I wonder why!)

As their popularity grew, they became places for political debate and were seen as centres of sedition by various governments. They also became centres for commercial and financial business. But I can't find reference to the drinking of coffee in homes. The tea caddy locked up the precious tea leaves - but a coffee caddy? Maybe the roasting and grinding of the coffee beans was a closely guarded secret? I just don't know! But the coffee bean was not the readily available and much beloved everyday object that we know! It was a rare and exotic bean ;o)

This shot was taken using a small double-walled espresso glass, and a few arabica beans. The full base of the glass is about 4cm across
