カボチャ [草間彌生] - Kabocha (Kusama Yayoi @ Naoshima)

Dot obsession again

Standing proudly at the end of a jetty on a beach near Benesse House (Naoshima, Japan) and facing Shikoku's shore, the big, fat and very cool Kabocha (=pumpkin) by Yayoi KUSAMA looks like a cute primitive god's sculpture, alien AND, at the same time, integrated in the beautiful natural environment.

This sculpture have been there since 1996 and is not only one of the eldest artworks in the Naoshima Art Project, but also by far the most famous and emblematic figure of the island.

Technically, this picture is far from being perfect : the framing is not totally stable and it's quite underexposed (400 iso, no flash). But the pics i took with a 900 and 1600 iso exposure were too bright, "killing" the blue where sky, mountains and sea are melting - and also the framing was even worse... I also had to remove, pixel by pixel, the not very pretty reflections of the spots on the black dots of the pumpkin.

 

L'obsession des points encore

Posée fièrement à l'extrémité d'une jetée sur une plage non loin de Benesse House (Naoshima, Japon) et faisant face aux rivages de Shikoku, la grosse, grasse et très cool Kabocha (=courge) de Yayoi KUSAMA ressemble à une mignonne statue d'un dieu primitif, à la fois extraterrestre ET intégrée à son bel environnement naturel.

Cette sculpture est ici depuis 1996 et n'est pas seulement l'une des oeuvres d'art les plus anciennes du Naoshima Art Project, mais aussi, et de loin, la figure emblématique de l'île.

Techniquement, cette photo est loin d'être parfaite : le cadrage n'est pas totalement droit et stable et elle est clairement sous-exposée (400 iso, pas de flash). Mais les essais à 900 et 1600 iso n'étaient pas très satisfaisants, trop lumineux, gâchant ce bleu profond où se mêlent ici ciel, montagnes et mer - et aussi le cadrage '[etait encore plus approximatif... Il m'a aussi fallu enlever presque pixel par pixel les reflets inesthétiques des spots sur les points noirs de la courge...
