Pentax H2 store demonstrator
I bought this early H2 version of the Asahi Pentax S2 in the USA a couple of months ago to add to my collection. It is quite an interesting piece as it is the first camera to be sold via Honeywell Heiland in the USA and it is one of the few "Store Demonstrator" models.
Some trivia for my fellow GAS sufferers:
In 1959, the Heiland Division of Honeywell became the official importer of Asahi Pentax cameras in the USA under their tradename Honeywell Heiland Pentax (for the H2 and H1 & H3) and at a latter stage only Honeywell Pentax. The Honeywell designation was last used on the ES II in 1975 after which only the Pentax name was used. Honeywell Photographic Products continued to be the US distributor.
Heiland H2 Store Demonstrator: during the first introduction of the Honeywell Heiland Pentax H2, a number of cameras were dedicated to act as demonstration models in camera departments and shops.
The cameras were engraved on the front of the top cover on the shutter side with the indication “Store Demonstrator”. This version is very rare and was available in chrome and black. Collector Preston Cook estimates the total of these cameras to be around 1000, which makes it even rarer than the Asahi Pentax S model, with less than 5000 units.
Technical details:
Canon 1D-Mark III
Canon EF 100mm Macro f/2.8 USM
Filter: non
Exposure: 0,5 sec.
Diaphram: f/ 16
ISO: 100
Focal length: 100 mm (APS-H sensor)
Lightroom 3 + PSE 8
