LWL Museum Münster, Germany

The LWL Museum of Art and Culture in Münster is one of the largest cultural history museums in North Rhine-Westphalia. Founded more than 100 years ago as a symbol of social commitment, the museum now has a collection of around 450,000 objects. In September 2014 the opening of a new building of the LWL Museum for art and culture took place. The building was designed by Volker Staab Architects in Berlin, with a whole new perspective on the collection. With this new building, the exhibition area of the museum has been expanded by 1,800 m2 to a total of 7,500 m2, thereby creating the ideal conditions for both temporary and permanent exhibitions. The link between the new building and the old building dates from the beginning of the 20th century, allowing the collections to be enjoyed undisturbed for the first time. The collections are exhibited in 51 recently refurbished spaces. In addition, six exceptionally large spaces are available for special exhibitions.
