Julian the Tank - 1918
National Savings began during World War 1 to encourage people to lend money to the UK Government in the form of War Bonds and War Saving Certificates to help the war effort.
To help encourage people to part with their money a special event to attract people to pay up in public was devised. A very popular attraction was the display of one of the latest war weapons, the tank.
The Tank Bank savings campaigns of 1917 - 1919 saw tanks touring towns and cities of the UK. Tank No. 113 and named Julian toured Scotland and visited Dundee on 04 February 1918.
