Chavín de Huantar fue un centro ceremonial y el eje del mundo religioso entre los 1400 a 500 a. C., que acogió a gente de diversas latitudes, distancias y lenguas, constituyéndose en el primer y más notable centro de integración e intercambio ideológico, cultural y simbólico de su época en torno a un culto religioso que se difundió en un inmenso territorio de los Andes.

El sitio cubre un área de 14.7 hectáreas sin contar con los restos existentes en la periferia. Posee un impresionante diseño de orden simétrico, compuesto por una serie de terrazas y plazas, rodeadas de estructuras con piedras revestidas y ornamentadas de singular belleza, así como un complejo sistema de drenajes y galerías internas. Por su valor universal excepcional, en 1985 fue declarado por la UNESCO como Patrimonial Mundial.

Chavín del Huantar was a ceremonial center and the focus of the religious world between the 1400 and 500 b. c., which received people of diverse latitudes, distances and languages, establishing itself like the first and most notable center for integration and ideological, cultural and symbolic of its time, around a religious cult that spread in a vast territory of the Andes,

The site covers an area of 14.7 hectares, without counting the remains existing on the periphery. It has an impressive design of symmetric order; it's been compound of a series of terraces and squares, surrounded by structures with coated and decorated stones of unique beauty, also a complex system of drainage and domestic galleries. For its exceptional universal value, in 1985 it was declared by UNESCO as World Heritage.
