“I will never forgive them for what they did to the computer” —Ed Zitron on the #enshittification of Computing 💩

For Zitron, however, the rot is everywhere. Similar to the concept of “enshittification”, coined by fellow blogger Cory Doctorow to describe the decaying state of the modern internet, he obsesses over the downward spiral of technology and the economic forces responsible: AI slop, aggressive algorithms, tech titans “in a race to the bottom to bleed users” for their data. (Doctorow has appeared as a guest on Zitron’s podcast along with a string of other influential business commentators.) Zitron’s essays offer a bleak diagnosis of the US technology industry, late-stage capitalism, the media and politics. Executives chase trends, investors reward vibes, journalists don’t ask difficult questions.
