SPUTNIK 1 LAUNCH ROCKET MODEL
The rocket used to launch Sputnik 1 was designed by Soviet rocket engineer Sergei Korolev, based on the R-7 Semyorka intercontinental ballistic missile. It was later developed into the Soyuz rockets, used to transport astronauts to the International Space Station.
SPUTNIK 1 MODEL
Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite, was a beachball-sized aluminium sphere with four radio antennas that transmitted distinctive bleeps. It was launched into low Earth orbit on 4th October 1957 and fell back into the atmosphere three months later.
