Learning Zone Launch
The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Paddy Bourke announced the launch of Dublin City Libraries new Learning Zones in Charleville Mall Library on Friday October 26th 2007.
Building on the longstanding tradition of providing homework support for schoolchildren - Learning Zones come in in response to research which clearly indicates the need for dedicated child friendly space in libraries - supported by specially chosen reading and reference materials, together with access to appropriate educational websites and other computer software. Children often find their homes less than conducive to the completion of homework assignments – and Dublin City Libraries believe the Zones will provide a welcoming environment in which learning can be encouraged - combining tried and tested methods with up to the minute technology and facilities.
When we asked children they said:
"I would like if people helped me with finding information and books” .
"I would like if there was a special place for doing homework because I get distracted".
"I think the library is a nice place to do your homework and you get it done quicker".

9 Learning Zones will be in place by end 2007 in the following branch libraries: Ballymun, Charleville Mall, Coolock, Dolphin’s Barn, Finglas, Raheny and Walkinstown.
