Lake Huron Sunrise
I was thinking of Carl Sagan's "Last Perfect Day" analogy while I was sitting here on St Vital Point, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, De Tour State Forest.
Just west of the tip of the Upper Peninsula, De Tour State Forest lies on a point jutting out into Lake Huron. There's a campground just feet from the beach. I got up before the sun and hiked along the point for several hours. By the time I reached this location, I was almost to the end of the point. The sun finally came out from behind the clouds and turned the world into the golden color which gives "Golden Hour" its name.
St Vital's Point is a low lying sandy point covered with cedars, rocks, and wildflowers. It's on the northern shore of Lake Huron in the part of the Upper Peninsula known as "Les Cheneaux Region". (there are many islands) I thought I would spend some time here this weekend as the Eastern Part of the UP remains one of the last places in the state I haven't explored.
