A fastener is anything used to hold two or more things together. It’s a general term, and it can refer to a bunch of different objects depending on the context.
A fastener is a device or component used to secure or join two or more objects together. Fasteners can be permanent (like rivets or welds) or temporary/removable (like screws, bolts, or zippers). They are commonly used in industries such as construction, manufacturing, automotive, and clothing.
Fasteners come in various shapes, sizes, and materials—typically metal, plastic, or fabric—depending on their application. Their main function is to hold parts in place, allow for easy assembly or disassembly, and provide structural integrity to a product or structure.
Common types of fasteners:
Screws, Nails, Bolts and nuts, Clips, Zippers, Buttons, Velcro
So, for example:
In construction, a fastener might be a screw or bolt.
In clothing, a fastener could be a button, zipper, or snap.
In mechanics, it might be a pin, clamp, or rivet.
