Artist's Statement:

The midwest sprawl is a particularly unforgiving setting for photographing uncluttered landscapes, horizons, and skies. One finds constructed and engineered elements nearly everywhere in this immediate area, stubbornly injecting themselves into scenes that might otherwise be naturally captivating. These intrusive forms consistently steal my attention and I have developed an affinity for their presence.

In this series, I have focused my interest on these rogue elements and promoted them as subjects. Of course, because of the ubiquitous disarray in which these subjects exist, I chose to photograph them only in part, cropped against sky, where they may be clearly focused upon while maintaining their obstructive bias.
