For the crane box's case wrap I'm using a sheet of handmade paper from Judi Hurwitt, who has this to say:
"90# drawing paper, painted with fiber reactive dyes and watercolors in black and then sprinkled with table salt. Salt reacts chemically with pigments and shoves them away, giving the pigments a subtle starburst effect. When the sheet was dry, it was spritzed with several shades of interference blue liquid paint."
In addition to the deep sky effect, the paper has a slightly rough texture from the salt treatment. It's also a bit darker than this photo shows it, which adds to the paper's mystique.
