Buachaille Etive Mor from Stob Beinn a' Chrulaiste.

One off the Buachaille List.

I've wanted to see this view for years let alone photograph it. With the help of Scott he guided us up the 640m (2100ft), 45 degree climb to Stob Beinn a' Chrulaiste. The climb with crampons was pretty brutal, at least it was for me, and we were obviously under a time constraint to get there before sun up. Every now and then I afforded myself a peek to the right to see the Great Herdsman towering over us. The wide span of this 11 shot panorama fools you as to just how massive this 1000m+ (3400ft) mountain really is.

To the left lies Rannoch Moor, a 50 square mile expanse of boggy moorland and certainly not somewhere where you'd like to break down. To the left of the mountain lies Glen Etive, an 18km stretch that was the location for the James Bond movie, Skyfall. Finally to the right, below the setting moon winds the road to the pass of Glen Coe, without doubt one of the best roads in the UK in terms of views.

Even with only an hour's sleep in what pro rata became a very expensive hotel it was totally worth it, I was super lucky with the weather and with sunset, but this dawn shot was what I came for. The climb nearly killed me with nearly 17 kilos of kit on my back. Think I need to go mirrorless for mountain outings.

Big thanks to Scott Robertson for guiding us up; it was a pleasure to finally meet you after all these years. And a big thanks to Mike and Anthony, two great friends and always great company.
