1954 Triumph TR2 “Long Door”
Chassis No. TS3196L
Engine: 2.0 Liter, Inline 4-Cylinder
Transmission: 4-Speed Manual
When it launched the TR2 in March 1953, Triumph was on to a winning formula despite involving a redesign of the stillborn TR1's chassis that was completed in just weeks. Triumph's hopes that the car would be successful in competition were quickly realized, with the first of many notable results being a win at the 1954 RAC Rally.
Simple and rugged yet with good and reliable performance at an affordable price, the TR2 was an everyman's sports car. Producing 90bhp at 4300rpm, the 1991cc four-cylinder could propel the TR2 to 60mph in 11.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 125 mph via the four speed gearbox.
Offered here is a very unique "Long Door" model TR2, so named because the doors extend to the very edge of the car. The shorter door style entered production in the fall of 1954. Another unique feature on this particular example is the original alloy windscreen. Alloy windscreens were supposedly only placed on the factory TR2 race cars. The mystery remains for the reasoning behind the placement of the windscreen on this car.
In 1997, the TR2 under went a full restoration. Following the restoration, the Triumph showed for several years at many national events, acquiring several first place awards and a feature on the cover of the 2003 British Sports Cars calendar. The TR2 remains in great driver quality today, while showing signs of normal wear as any driver would. With its superior reliability, deep throaty exhaust, quick acceleration, and tight corning, this TR2 is a must have for anyone seeking the perfect weekend driver or rally superstar.
* Rare and desirable “Long Door” example!
* Mechanically Strong!
* A thrilling driver!
