The Full Beaver Moon Sets (20171104-080238-PJG)

I have been taking photographs of full moons for many years now, but this is a first for me.

Taking a photo of the full moon in the sky gets tiresome after one has done it many, many times. I usually try for something more difficult and interesting, that is, a moon rise. The full beaver moon was scheduled to occur at 2am this morning, but we were clouded in last night, so no joy for a moon rise.

I am usually not a morning person, any more. However, for some unusual reason, I woke with a start this morning around 6:30am and took a look around to see what woke me. I could find nothing, but when I looked outside, I saw a clear black sky and a full moon. The 25W bulb went on! Wait a second, I have never photographed the setting of a full moon.

This shot was taken just as the moon was setting. The glow of sunrise was starting in the East, so I just about had a daylight setting of the moon. As I said, this is a first for me.

From The Farmers' Almanac:

• Full Beaver Moon – November This was the time to set beaver traps before the swamps froze, to ensure a supply of warm winter furs. Another interpretation suggests that the name Full Beaver Moon comes from the fact that the beavers are now actively preparing for winter. It is sometimes also referred to as the Frosty Moon.

This was shot hand held, is not cropped. I suggest viewing it in large. Enjoy!
