One of a Kind 317210

The Prothonotary Warbler is one of a kind in the Northeastern US, and it is so for a number of reasons. First of all, it is the only warbler in this area that nests in tree holes or nest boxes. The Lucy’s warbler also does so, but they are not found in the Northeastern US. The Prothonotary is a brilliant tangerine yellow, with a larger bill and head than most warblers. Found only in swamplands and near slow moving rivers and streams, these jewels of the avian world are declining in number due to habitat loss. Without continued protection of our wetlands from development, one of a kind could easily become none of a kind! #ProthonotaryWarblers
