What a Hoot 0343
Two Burrowing Owls stood near the entrance to their burrow. One asked, "What do you call an owl with a laryngitis?" "I don't know," said the other. "An owl that doesn't give a hoot!" ..... Although it may look like laughter, this burrowing owl is really just yawning. Yawning, despite being a fairly ubiquitous action throughout the animal kingdom, is probably still one of the least scientifically understood. Theories abound regarding the reasons for yawning and some are species specific. The sand on this owl's face should also help serve as evidence that burrowing owls do, in fact, burrow. Although many will usurp the borrows of other animals, when the substrate is soft enough, many will dig their own borrows and maintain them. They are a unique and interesting bird. I find that the more I see them, the more of them I want to see. #BurrowingOwls
