Picking Favorites 1671

The Spotted Sandpiper is the most widely distributed sandpiper in North America. That's not the same as the most numerous, which is probably the Semipalmated Sandpiper. Kayaking on Chatsworth Lake yesterday evening was a great stress reliever, and some interesting birds were to be found. I always like it when I have to choose a favorite photo out of a group. It means I managed to take more than one that makes me happy.

Spotted Sandpiper females sometimes practice polyandry, mating with several males. The males take care of brooding and raising the chicks. How's that for a role reversal? The females usually arrive first, choose a breeding ground, and defend the area against intruders. On occasion, they will actually pitch in to help raise the young. Nature always has a lesson to teach. #iLoveNature #iLoveWildlife #WildlifePhotography in #NewJersey #Nature in #NorthAmerica #SpottedSandpipiers #DrDADBooks #ChildrensBooks #Canon #WildlifeConservation
