Shot down by flak on the July 10,1944 mission to bomb the railroad bridge at Marzabotto, Italy. A direct hit blew the left wing and horizontal stabilizer off, sending the plane into an uncontrollable spin and trapping the crew inside. It was the crews second mission to the target area that day.
