Apocalyptic
Taken along the Rim of the World Highway (18) on my way back home last night.
While preparing for my trip to shoot the Aug 21st Eclipse, another date keep popping up, many of you probably had the same experience with google producing another interesting date....Sept 23rd 2017. That's the day that the world is supposed to end!!!!!!! Another internet hoax by a bunch of religious zealots and crazy archeologists trying to convince us that the end is nigh. The planets are going to align, or the stars are going to line up just right with the constellations or the pyramids or something of that nature. This was the first time that some scientist were in agreement on key issues, the big problem is that we are only here for the blink of an eye, cosmically speaking, and who's to tell what's happened over the last 500,000 years on this rock we call home, I use celestial programs all the time and their accuracy is impeccable, Ok, the stars and planets may align but it's anyone guess as to the result that will occur. Rather than waiting to see what would happen I decided that even if nothing were to happen it would be a good opportunity to do a practice, "Bug-Out" run up to the family ranch just 30 minutes from my home. I plotted out a path trying to omit as many freeways, underpasses, and bridges then loaded up the car with everything I might need in the event of an apocalypse which could include an Earthquake, Solar Flare, an EMP Burst or some type of pestilence or worse yet "Internet Failure" all potentially creating havoc among the populous, especially the last one, Hehe.
I am in no way a doomsday prepper, but because of my background in the Boy Scouts I have always prided myself on being prepared for a variety of situations and weather scenarios and the load I carry when shooting, closely resembles the list of items a prepper would have in tow.
Of course, nothing happened, and a lot of people are eating crow just about now, but it was a great exercise in making a hasty exit in the event of an apocalyptic event or social breakdown which has also posed some interesting scenarios that I hadn't considered before. Who know's, maybe what I learned on this test run may save my life latter on during a photo trip. :)
The Tale of the Take:
I decided to return just before sunset and grab an improvised composition on my way home as I travelled west along highway 18. The sun was completely blocked by clouds and I was already resolved to a skunk-out when the clouds started to glow with a slight hint of orange and for 30 seconds the sun became visible through the clouds, I hit the binders and cut across the double yellow into a turnout on the wrong side of the road, grabbed my camera and shot this propped up on the window right out of my car. As I shot, the clouds thinned a little more and everything, I mean everything, the car, the road, the trees, all burst into an orange glow, I subconsciously thought to myself, here we go, this is it, it's the end. My mind reeled momentarily, and I pondered the implications, then as fast as it started it disappeared and when my heart started to beat at a normal rate again, I sat there in the car and relished the adrenaline that was now coursing through my veins, wow, that thirty seconds was the most exhilarating experience, although heightened by paranoia, that I've ever had, even surpassing the 2017 eclipse event, LOL. ;-)
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!!
Have a great week ahead my friends!! :)
