Beltany Stone Circle, Co. Donegal, IE

This site is a bit of a question. The inside is raised about three feet and due to some bad excavation in the 30's, it is uneven and disturbed. At 145 feet across, if this were the remains of a passage tomb, it would have been huge and these stones around the outside are not nearly big enough to have been the curb stones for such a cairn, so it is unlikely this was a passage tomb. On the other hand, this is not the kind of stone circle one finds in Co.'s Cork and Kerry, a la Drombeg or Ardgroom. See "Sacred Ireland" by Meehan for more info.
