Coffee Cup Water Tower - Stanton, Iowa

Stanton is a two water tower town in western Iowa. This tower, the newer of the two, is painted like a giant coffee cup. The other tower is painted like a coffee pot. These allude to the fact that Stanton is the hometown of actress Virginia Christine, best known to TV viewers as "Mrs. Olson" in classic commercials for Folgers Coffee.
Stanton is one of the rest stops for riders on the second day of RAGBRAI 2009. Easily the friendliest folks we met on our day trip. Though the man at Wistrom Oil was suspicious when I asked to take photos, he agreed. The two women there (mother and daughter?) were walking and talking promotional brochures for Stanton. They pointed out Stanton's Swedish heritage and sent us to several of the points of interest.
RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Grand Bike Ride Across Iowa) is an increasingly popular summer event here in Iowa. Each year, a different route is selected leading the riders through small Iowa towns for 7 full days of biking. Find out more about RAGBRAI here:

Despite less than perfect weather, Mary and I drove (in a car) part of the route on Thursday, April 9, 2009 and took some photos.
