My Great Grandfather: Moses Coppock Pierce (1845-1931)

Taken about 1864 after he enlisted as a private in a volunteer infantry regiment from his home in West Milton, Ohio. I remember Dad terlling me that he was part of a small group of Union Army soldiers who defended a bridge that prevented the Confederate soldiers from entering Washington, D. C.

 

I found the faded tintype yesterday in a box of old photos. Grandmother O'Brien had written the identification of her father on the back. I had never seen the photo before.
