Cable Cottage(?), Firemore

Cable Cottage(?), Firemore

Described by some locals as having been the Transatlantic cable terminal but SCOTICE came ashore in Gairloch.

This would seem to be the terminal of the 1872 cable to Stornoway.

1872

Loch Ewe, Scotland - Branahuie Bay, Stornoway, Lewis, Outer Hebrides?

GPO?

System 32.5 nm.

Cable contained 1 conductor

The cable is said to still be visible under the sand on the beach.

The laying of the cable is described in The Scotsman

The Scotsman (1860-1920); Jul 3, 1872; ProQuest Historical Newspapers: The Scotsman (1817-1950)
