Deep Cut
A little after 7am on a beautiful spring morning, Amtrak P42DC 107 on the east end of Downeaster 682 flies through Brunswick wearing an absolutely spotless coat of paint that glistens in the early morning sunlight. This is looking west from the overpass at Deep Cut, and there is only brief window of time each day that this view isn't compromised by shadows. This was a favorite location of mine to watch Guilford locals leaving Brunswick from growing up, because when looking east from the bridge, there's over a mile of straight track that's all up hill. In the Maine Yankee waste removal era of the mid-2000s when westbounds often exceeded 30 loads, the Guilford GP35s and GP40s would put on quite a show approaching this bridge.
