School's Out- Forever

So, apparently this is an old schoolhouse!

I never would have actually thought that this was a school as most of the old schoolhouses I've seen had architecture that would hold a bell. This is missing that. I knew it wasn't a house, but my idea that it might have been a bunkhouse of some kind just didn't turn out to be accurate.

So thanks to Rickwil64 for letting me know it was actually a schoolhouse!

Photographic opportunities in the Palouse are endless. Over the last few years, the popularity of this region has grown considerably, and unfortunately with that growth has come some bad behaviour on the part of a very small number of photographers.

And unfortunately, due to this poor behaviour, more than a couple of landowners have now prohibited the photography of their properties- to EVERYONE.

The people in this area are friendly and approachable and my experience on this trip has shown me, as always, that if you politely ask someone if you can shoot SAFELY on their property, and if you agree to follow whatever instructions they give you, you’ll find that permission will almost ALWAYS be given. However, if you run out into someone’s field trying to photograph their moving combine when they are trying to harvest their crops, or show up inside their barn at 5AM without first asking permission, not only will you most probably not be allowed back, but you run the risk of having that landowner permanently ban EVERY photographer from their property. So, before you step even one foot onto someone’s property to take a photo, walk instead up to their front door and politely ask them if it’s alright that you do.

You’ll find their response to be much more accommodating than if you simply decide to trespass.

So please behave responsibly so everyone can enjoy this special place for a very long time to come.
