Hatfield House
The 'modern' part of the house, finished 1611, built on the site of the older Palace, some parts of which still remain, where Elizabeth 1st was raised. She gave the grounds to her chief minister, Lord Burghley. The house has been the property of the Cecil family (Earls of Salisbury) ever since and is open to the public.
