I'd Rather Be in Buenos Aires

Domingo Sarmiento was one of the greatest and most progressive of Argentinian political figures. In 1847, he visited Boston, and spent some time with Horace Mann, the great educational reformer. He utilized Mann's ideas upon his return home. Commemorating this link, the Argentinian government in 1973 presented the city of Boston with this beautiful bronze sculpture by Yvette Compagnion. It is on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall.
