At the Races – Eyton Races!
Eyton Races was held at Eyton-on-Severn in South Shropshire on Bank Holiday Monday 6/5/24. Racegoers were treated to a splendid day's steeple chasing at one of the UK's leading point-to-point courses. Three miles long and described as an 'old and very flat galloping course'.
I counted 12 fences with the final three close together and right in front of the bulk of spectators. The naming convention for the fences appears to be for two lengths, a shorter course with jumps 1 to 7 and the full course starting at “jump 1&13”.
The ground is well-drained and runs alongside the River Severn with excellent views across to the Wrekin and The Long Mynd. Punters can walk around the course where, from a safe distance, you get unimpeded views of the track and the fences. For more information, please see....
