How many U is the server?
That little box on top is the entire server sans disks. C'est tout! Packed in that little container are two dual-core 2.6GHz Opteron 285 processors, two PCI-Express slots and 16GB of RAM.
The bright shiny copper bands are actually massively dense pin arrays. They connect the mainboard to the disk back plane (the green thing under the disk slots). The connectors each attach 3 PCI-Express Marvell SATA.
