Where were you when the volcano blew?
Mt. St. Helens on May 18th, 1980.
This was shot about an hour or so after the big eruption.
That morning a friend and I were on the way up there to hang out to see if anything "interesting" might happen. I'd done that a half-dozen times before... and was lucky if we saw even just a small steam puff coming from the top of the mountain.
That day though when we came around the clearing , this is what greeted us.
Funny thing is we had felt nothing or heard no blast sound...probably wouldn't have anyway since we were crankin' Iron Maiden on the car stereo, and we were on the southwest "blind side" of the mountain when the initial blast took place.
Needless to say it was an interesting day.
Shot with:
Canon F-1
50mm Canon lens
Kodachrome 25
