Part of a total lunar eclipse
The full Moon of September 27/28 2015 was a ‘Supermoon’ – the moon was closest to the earth, with the reddish tint of the earth's shadow giving it a 'blood moon' appearance. There was also the very rare total eclipse of the moon, when the full moon passed through the darkest part of earth's shadow (the umbra), and such an event will not happen again until October 8, 2033.
