Horseshoe Falls

Siouxon creek trail

I took Thursday and Friday off and was going to head down to Siouxon Creek trail the first day and hit another trail the next day. But, I had to be a responsible adult most of the day Thursday (not to mention pack) so I left Kent at about 8 pm. I got to the Siouxon trail (no signage at all until you are 50 feet down the trail*) about mid-night. There was another pick-up in the small parking lot so I parked as far away from them as I could.

I napped fitfully and woke up just after 5 am, packed up, got my mountain bike out of the bed and started down the trail.

Wearing hiking boots and waders and not at all comfortable with the bike on the small trail (with roots galore), I stashed the bike about a mile in and started hiking.

That's when I realized I had forgotten my water. Well, I didn't forget it. I had packed it but it had fallen out of the side pocked of my backpack. I had two small bottles of Gatorade and a diet shake as backup so I kept on going.

I got to the first waterfall, Horseshoe, about 6:30. I should have climbed down to the splash pool but I had a lot of miles ahead of me. I'll climb down there on my next trip.

There were two songs (new to me) that were in my head as I walked.

This song conveys how I feel as I'm hiking to a new waterfall.

* The directions were pretty good. Where 54 and 57 split (57 goes up to the left) the sign for 54 has small sign for "Carson" on top. The washed out section of road (30 feet) will be a challenge for small cars but I saw several passenger cars at the trailhead when I was done with my hike.
