Kaktovik, AK
We are in a boat owned and piloted by a local resident of Kaktovik. This village is on the north shore of Alaska about 200 km east of Prudhoe Bay. The bears are visiting Kaktovik because this is the day when local hunters will bring a Bowhead Whale from a several day hunt. After the whale is carved up and distributed to each family in the village the bears are allowed to have what is left which is a huge pile of bones and hundreds of pounds of meat that the villages do not want.
