Osler Castle

2010 - Day 105. Apr. 15, 2010.

Daily Shoot - Every town, village, or city has distinguishing icons and landmarks. Make a photo of one wherever you are today.

I hiked along the 'Petun Loop' of the Bruce Trail between Blue Mountain and Osler Bluff today to Osler Castle. This 15 room summer home was built in 1893 by Toronto Lawyer Britton Bath Osler, ( the crown attorney at the trial of Louis Riel), in the hope that 'fresh air' would improve the health of his ailing wife Caroline. Caroline named the castle "Kionontio", a Petun Indian word for 'top of the hill'. Vegetation, weather, and vandals have reduced the castle to ruins. The property is currently owned by Castle Glen Estates.
