113/365 Train Station Serendipity

This picture is more to share a story than be some photographic greatness. Read on for my magical night.

After seeing so many great Disney Fireworks photographs from the train station or NOT directly in front of the castle (as we normally see the show), we decided to try viewing Wishes from the Train Station balcony on Sunday night. Also, we had parked at the Poly for dinner at Kona Cafe so being at the front of the park would guarantee a shorter exit strategy.

We arrived during the Main Street Electrical Parade and decided to rest in the Train Station until it was over and then stake out a better spot for the Magic, Memories and You/Wishes shows. I snapped this while we were sitting on the bench inside cooling off.

After the show was over, I saw a marge amount of people leaving, (why the didn't want to stick around for Wishes, I'm not sure?!) so we made our way out there. I forgot my ND filter at home (ugh!) so I decided to just watch and enjoy rather than photograph anything. As I walked up to the railing, I saw a man roped off with his hat on backwards and my heart jumped, EEK! I'm pretty sure that's Bob Desomd! So, after I see he's done getting his shot and packing up, I tap on his shoulder and say, excuse me, are you Bob Desmond? He says, Yes? (!!!) I said, HI! I'm Disneywifey/Diana Odom from Flickr and I follow your Disney photos (I'm sure I'm basically hyperventilating while trying to spit words out I'm so excited). He says, oh yeah, I recognize that name (or something to that effect) how are you? He says he got some long exposure shots and is on his way to rush over to shoot on top of Carousel of Progress for Wishes (HOW COOL IS THAT?!). He asks if I'll be here for the 40th, YES I WILL! He says he's unsure of his schedule then but will hopefully be doing some shooting then. I bid him adieu and off he goes from his roped off section (as a crowd of ravenous wolves descend into his now vacant 3x5 space). I was on air! I motioned to hubby, "oh my gosh I just met this dude!" Hubby was clueless but like, cool! whatever!

Then, I got on my ipad to tweet about it (of course! haha) and as I'm on twitter, a guy next to me says, "do you know ___ _____.?" I said, huh? He said, "that girl on twitter, do you know her? I was looking on your iPad and I know her." Come to find out, he knows Kristin Williams' sister. We chat for awhile (he's a fellow Disney-phile from Costa Rica) and then the lady behind us overhears us talking about the 40th and she speaks up and says, "I was here opening day for my 16th birthday!" I mean, too cool for school! So, we all chat for a couple more minutes and then MM&Y starts, let me just say, the show is really cute, but the end where they project Walt Disney and the "to all who come to this happy place" I got GOOSEBUMPS ALL OVER! Then of course Wishes and well, suffice it to say, it was a GREAT last night.

Thanks for reading my life story here, but happenstances like this in Disney just reinforce what I already know, those of us who "get" Disney have such a comraderie and we really are a GREAT BUNCH!
