Bioluminesence and Perseids

I chalk it up to a learning experience, but what a real missed opportunity because of it.

I wasn't paying attention to my foreground when I was photographing the milky way to chance some captures of perseid meteors. Little did I know that on this particular evening in Acadia National Park there was an algae bloom that produces a blue glowing bioluminescence light.

I should have known to be capturing longer exposures for the foreground to blend with the sky anyway, it was a momentary lapse of thinking that cost me a great opportunity to take advantage of.

As for the sky in Acadia this particular evening, it was loaded with airglow, fog, millions of stars, a clear milky way, and lots of meteors.

This is a 2 image blend, one for the sky and one for the foreground, which I'm fortunate that it captured some of the blue bioluminesence taking place.

Always be paying attention to your surroundings!
