Pippin and the Baby Gate
The problem: Find a way for the cats to come and go while containing the dogs.
Pippin, a 19-lb. mix of uncertain lineage who looks like a miniature Golden Retriever, is small enough to sneak through the wrought iron railing next to the baby gate. I tried moving the gate to the bottom of the stairs, but that gave Pippin and my full-sized Golden Chaz enough altitude to vault over the gate entirely.
So I put the gate at the top of the stairs again, and used an aluminum gutter cover to barricade the railing. I left a 4" x 6" gap at the end for the cats to get through.
Then I set up the video camera--just in case--and left Pippin alone upstairs.
Behold, the mini Golden.
