News! News! Very good news for this young swift :o)

I'd just seen a video clip of someone lofting a young swift into the air on the RSPCA West Hatch's facebook page and happened to look up at where the swifts nest in our home. I spotted a youngster by the entrance…

That seemed very unusual and when I went out there it didn't fly off or go back in, through the camera I could see that one of its legs appeared to be trapped. Now I'm utterly hopeless on ladders, and there was only myself and my 80+years young neighbour about, neither of us ladder capable!!

Thankfully, at that moment as we stood wondering how we were going to solve the problem, one of her grandsons came home - bless him, Ben went up the ladder and managed to gently extricate the young swift and the massive tangle of blue polypropylene that was trapping it.

I eventually managed to gently remove it all and had to take a quick pic before I lofted it into the air, willing it to fly…

It flew off and its fair to say our hearts soared with it,

so good to be able to help this little bird fly free, hope it does well :o)

More very heavily cropped pics of it when it was trapped lower down in comments...
