I finally fixed my PS2 today! Turns out it was the little white gear that is used to adjust the laser read angle. While I didn't have to adjust the angle, I did have put it back in place as it had popped out. I kept on getting "disc read error" with all my discs. The discs would "whirl" in and out like the drive was stopping & going. Also, the eject tray was a little jerky when coming out. This site led me to the problem...
