Toseek Carbon Drop Bar_4366

I was curious to see how much of a difference a drop bar would make over the bullhorn. Also wanted to know how comfortable an aero carbon bar was. For $38 I took a gamble.

I wanted to keep my mtb brakes levers, but obviously no where to mount them on an aero bar hence the crazy looking stem adapter. STI style levers would have been a much cleaner look, but I don't like the brake position on them since my primary hand position is on the corner of the bar and occasionally the flat part. I can easily reach the brake levers with the mtb ones vs the STI style.

Verdict (compared to bullhorns): I bought these in April of 2020. Initially I was concerned about them flexing too much, cracking, or simply breaking. Haven't noticed any of that. The corners are much thicker than than the aluminum bullhorn and not quite as comfortable.

Riding on the flat portion feels a little strange because it is so wide, but flat too. I would say same comfort as the round portion of the bullhorn. The drop portion is very comfortable and allows me to get in a much more aero position than bullhorns. I only use the drop portion when my hands get tired from the corners or I encounter some heavy head winds.

It is claimed that carbon has offers dampening properties over rough terrain. Riding over brick roads and gravel is easier on my hands, but it is not a dramatic difference vs the aluminum bar. Overall I like it, but in the event that it cracks and/or breaks I will go with an aluminum bar. The bullhorn bar is still my favorite bar for all around use, but for long trips the drop bar is better. The more hand positions the better.

Side note: Not a fan of the asymmetrical Toseek graphics, but I didn't feel like wrapping them in vinyl before testing sooooo, I just ignore them for now.
