Photograph taken on Monday September 15th 2008 at 14:37pm. Travelling east on Mt. Baker Highway, State Route 542, just past the Firs Lodge along the left side of the road, I came upon a deserted Picture Lake in the Heather Meadows area, Washington State, USA. From here you can get spectacular views of Majestic Mt. Baker and Mt Shuksan over in Whatcom County as well as the Snoqualmie National Forest.
Here we see Mt Shuksan and her reflection in Picture Lake, one of the most photographed locations in the world, and for good reason. On a perfect day, it is quite simply breathtaking. Mount Shuksan is a glaciated massif in the North Cascades National Park. Shuksan rises in Whatcom County, Washington immediately to the east of Mount Baker, and 11.6 miles south of the Canadian border. Standing 2,783 m tall, she was first ascended on September 7th 1906. Known in Nooksack language as Sheqsan (High foot) or Ch esquen (Golden Eagle), she is approximately 120 Million years old.
