The black rabbit was waiting. I knew him well enough to see he was impatient; he wanted to take me somewhere.
I remembered when my grandfather first introduced me to him at a birthday party (you can see the rabbit in the picture, Excerpt VIII, behind me, just below my left elbow). Anyway, I followed him along the track.
We came to a river. On the other side, there were some people I recognised from the asylum days, and a boat. The ferryman was nowhere to be seen and no oars to be found. In a blink of an eye the black rabbit was across the river and following two boys into the dark forest.
Three youngsters offered to help, they said they could take me across in their old tin bath. I had serious doubts, but decided to give it a go…
