Navratri is a multi-day festival celebrated in honour of Goddess Durga, most powerful feminine power. It is also spelt as Navaratri translates to ‘nine nights’. It is a significant Hindu festival, which is observed for nine nights and ten days. As per Mahakala Samhita, there are four Navratri in Hindu calendar with Sharad Navratri falling in the month of September-October is the most important one. Navratri 2017 in India will begin on September 21 (Thursday), until September 29 (Friday). As per age-old traditions, the nine nights are dedicated to the nine avatars of Goddess Durga. Among the numerous rituals followed during Durga Puja festival, wearing dresses according to Navratri colours is quite popular. For the nine forms of Shakti (also known as Navdurga), nine different coloured dresses are worn by the devotees on each day of the festival to worship and please the divine feminine power. They are – Yellow, Red, Orange, Pink, Royal Blue, White, Grey and Green.
