Autumn is calling
The Scandinavian and east European common cranes are already starting to congregate in eastern Germany. This is at one of the hotspots for common cranes, later in October there will be about 100.00 cranes around the lakes and fields. At this evening I saw about 2.000 arriving with more already there (though they could only be heard, not seen). At about 30°C this makes up for an amazing late summer experience!
As I walked back to my car an hour later I heard all of the local cranes (must be several thousands already) heading from the resting area on the fields to their sleeping place over at the lakes. It was ways to dark to see anything but the sound was amazing!
