Common Hawker (Male)

Aeshna juncea. 75mm in length with a wingspan of 80 to 100mm. The abdominal spots are blue in the male and green on the female. Both sexes have 2 narrow stripes on the top and sides of the thorax a thin central line on segment 2 and paired spots on the 10th. The leading edges of each wing are yellow in colour. It can be seen from June to October and breeds in still water often in heathland and moorland pools.
