I learnt a better way of faking tilt shifts in Photoshop today, sometimes it pays to read a tutorial, although I learnt a couple of other things from fiddling around trying to find my own technique which is half the fun.
This method (using a mask rather than multiple layers) removes the ghosting issue I had on some other shots, which made them look more like someone had smeared vaseline on the lens than a proper miniature. I think I've actually underdone the effect on this image, it looks fine large but the effect isn't so good on the standard flickr size.
I'll have to go back and redo my other ones now to see how the results compare.
