Warbler Mania
It's warbler-mania in the yard right now. Orange-crowned and yellow-rumpeds are very numerous. The first Wilson's warbler of the season made several appearances in the yard yesterday and there are more today. This morning I saw the Nashville warbler again and the first Townsend warbler since early spring. McGillivray's and black-throated gray warblers are all in the realm of possibility right now. I never have seen a yellow warbler in the yard but they are common enough at the nearby ponds and it is certainly possible. I'm not sure what is the most warbler species I have seen in the yard in a single day, but this morning's number (five)--while a way short of the theoretical mark--is probably close to a personal best. Here are my dates of first arrival for the Wilson's:
May 2, 2012
May 8, 2013
May 11, 2014
May 4, 2015
May 1, 2016
April 23, 2017
May 2, 2018
April 19, 2020
April 30, 2021
May 2, 2022
April 28, 2023
