I was sitting contentedly this afternoon watching the traffic at the fountains when two male crossbills fluttered down from above for drinks. After a minute or two they flew away, and my attention was called to a moving silhouette distant and high above in the big maple: a cooper's hawk, probably the same predator that upset everyone yesterday.
